Reliving Love

I can’t actually remember when my husband Elton and I started officially dating. It was one of those natural, irresistible progressions from friendship to interest to dating exclusively. The kind that you don’t see coming (at all!) but are super excited about when it hits. Our romance is one of our favorite stories, I suppose that’s true of most couples–am…

American Kid

Red, white, blue AND baseball? Oh yes. Happy 4th of July from The Late Break! As per the usual, the firecrackers started a few nights ago in preparation for the big BOOM, downtown streets were closed off today for a patriotic parade, and tents have been set up all day along the lakefront park properties, saving their special spot for tonight’s…

Ready for the 4th?

Are you ready for the 4th? Food and drinks bought, maybe a firework hidden here or there, red, white, and blue EVERYWHERE? Yeah, me neither–yet. If you’re like me and still wondering what to wear (a daily dilemma not necessarily tied to the 4th of July in any way), these shirts might just be the thing: HU-RRAH! It’s too late…

*BOOM*

Happy July 1st! It’s a RED, WHITE, & BLUE time of year, in true ‘Murican style. As a kid, I looked forward to putting my patriotic ensemble together–jean shorts, a white or red t-shirt, maybe some RWB bracelets or socks or headbands. I’d start my brainstorming at least a few days in advance, giving myself enough time to properly rummage…

Best Day This 2015

Today, with the help of my fabulous loved ones, I enjoyed the best day of 2015. One’s birthday is already special in general, to be sure, even if celebrated in the generic way. But a day awash with adventure certainly adds some sparkle to the whole package, making the person opening said gift (the birthday itself) exclaim, “If this isn’t…

A Generic Birthday Party

SO, it’s my birthday tomorrow and while May 24 has always excited me maybe a LITTLE too much, I did say to Elton today, “You know, you don’t have to worry about making tomorrow like a BIG DEAL or anything.” In retrospect, I’m sure this translated as, “Yo, don’t forget about my BIG DAY tomorrow!” Not my intent, but there…

To the Moon & Back!

One day is really not enough to commemorate everything our mamas do for us, but at least there is today to get the party started! I’m not with my mom today, so to send her my love, I sent her evidence of her love for me.

Mama & Me

That’s one hot mama, if I do say. Thanks for the genes, Mom – I only hope I have some of your sparkle. I love these photos because of our smiles. Blessed with a happy and wholesome childhood, the good times have continued. Lots to be thankful for, namely my mama.

Happy Mother’s Day to you all too!

National Sibling Day!

Ah, Sibling Day… The word sibling always brings a smile to my face for two reasons: 1) I happen to have a pretty stupendous sibling, and 2) I once coerced him into singing and dancing to a rendition of Bing Crosby & Danny Kay’s hilarious “Sisters” from “White Christmas.” If you’ve seen this classic film, you know the song I…

WTF, the Easter Episode

Hats (ears?) off to Austin Kleon for posting my favorite Easter celebratory pic so far this year. It also falls in so nicely with yesterday’s post:

 “WTF Easter”

We shuddered, we laughed, we cried.

Ironically, we were gifted an Easter photo of our niece beaming next to her own giant bunny friend. I hope, “Oh wow, that’s a huge rabbit. How cute…” was an appropriate response.

It’s a wild world.

I think I’m going to hunker down with something sweet, watch “Harvey,” and think about it some more.

Happy Easter!

*Thanks again, Austin Kleon, for capturing the true spirit of things!

Metaphors for Love

imageThe necessaries: fun paper, stickers, glitter, balloons, & lots of love.

This was Bae’s card. For more on “bae,” refer again to Manrepeller’s 14 Words of 2014. Added to the scene is our cool 3D Paper Zoo Calendar for February. This is what happens when I go to Paper Source. When I finally left the store, I had no idea how long I’d been there. Thankfully money remains in the bank account, and heart balloons are scattered on the floor.
